Rooted ten day indigenous pottery workshop            This workshop is specifically designed for indigenous students who have ancestral roots to this continent and those whose ancestors made pottery for various purposes. The goal is to research ancestral pottery and sherds, and knowledge to attempt to reproduce work that would have been made in the past to cook with and to store foods in. The purpose is to help students familiarize themselves with ancient indigenous pottery techniques so as to touch base with their own ancestral roots. Revitalization is not just about learning our languages, songs and dances, but to understand ancestral lifeways and the arts. For any european-american students in the class they are also encouraged to do research into their own pre-christian era pottery traditions of Europe and to recreate work which would enforce pride in their own ancient european heritage. After the pottery is finished and dried, we will fire the pottery in the open on the ground in a traditional manner when the weather permits. We will have to be flexible about the firing timing and for that reason we have set aside 10 days for the entire workshop. It might be that some students can not attend the entire 10 days but we encourage them to come early make a pot and to attend the firing and the cooking in their own pots as we wrap up our workshop and have a traditional dinner together.
