The Rozynski Art Centre's artist-in-residence program offers a period of creative work in a place where history, landscape, and ceramics are intimately intertwined. In 1966, ceramic artist Wanda Rozynska and sculptor Stanley Rozynski acquired a school in the Eastern Townships. This school was transformed into a studio and a welcoming living space that, over the decades, has hosted pottery classes, singing friends, and artists from major cities. Today, the Centre continues their vision of a space dedicated to creation, the transmission of skills, and exchange among residents.

The Centre is located in the hamlet of Way's Mills, surrounded by forests, gardens, and the river. This setting offers an environment conducive to reflection, experimentation, and artistic exploration. This retreat is enriched as much by individual work as by conversations, shared meals, and exchanges with the community that revolves around the CAR.

With 82 active members, the CAR is a non-profit organization dedicated to the practice of ceramics. Throughout the year, the center hosts courses, workshops, and events, in addition to artist residencies, all centered around this fascinating medium. This creates a vibrant mix of amateurs, enthusiasts, and professionals, preserving and revitalizing contemporary ceramic practice.

Artists in residence benefit from an individual space within a fully equipped, professional, shared ceramics studio. A variety of kilns and specialized equipment are available, along with technical support tailored to their needs. Whether pursuing research, exploring new processes, or undertaking an ambitious project, the Centre provides the time, space, and support necessary for development.

The CAR integrates the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) throughout its programming cycle. During calls for applications, the CAR actively encourages proposals from artists from historically underrepresented groups (Indigenous artists, racialized artists, gender diverse artists and artists living with a disability, among many others).

True to the spirit of Wanda Rozynska, who conceived of creation as a way of inhabiting the world, the Rozynski Art Centre welcomes artists to live an experience where clay, nature and encounters sustainably nourish the creative process.
